Preparation for First Sacraments 2024
If you are the parent/carer of a child (who is a baptised Catholic) in Years 3 or 4 and live in either Sacred Heart or Our Lady and English Martyrs (Addingham) Church Parish, we would like to invite your child to begin to prepare to receive the sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation (Y3) or First Holy Communion (Y4) in 2024. The dates we are currently looking at are Saturday 23rd March (Reconciliation) and Saturday 29th June (First Holy Communion). (Before making their First Holy Communion, the child needs to have received the sacrament of Reconciliation).
Each programme is very much a learning partnership between the child and their family, with support from the catechists, and plentiful resources are available to assist parents/carers in this task. Sessions normally take place on Saturday mornings in the Sacred Heart Church foyer.
If you and your child would like to join either preparation programme, please send your contact details, the place and date your child received the sacrament of Reconciliation if appropriate, and their name and age to catechist.sacredheart.ilkley@dioceseofleeds.org.uk. We hope to begin the
programmes after Christmas, starting with Reconciliation, and then moving to First Holy Communion after Easter. We will give more details of what is involved, timetables etc once we have an idea of who is interested.
